WHAT IS FUNAKOSHI KARATE?
Funakoshi Karate was founded in the 50's by South African Native, Edwin J. Ward, whom currently resides in Canada.
This system is based on the fundamental principles laid down by the grandfather of Karate Gichin Funakoshi, and ultimately desires the development of character and personal growth of its participants.
Funaksohi Karate teaches a variety of abilities, here are just a few. First Karate refers to empty hand, or unarmed techniques and focuses on punching, striking, kicking and blocking techniques. Incorporated into this is body mechanics, hand position, foot movement and overall personal awareness.
This is achieved through memorization, repitition & dynamic partner training through the medium of kata , training forms, sparring etc.
However, the very most important elements of Funakoshi Karate are its Values including : CHARACTER, SINCERITY, EFFORT, ETTIQUETTE and SELF CONTROL WHICH OF COURSE = PERFECTION OF CHARACTER
